Back Pain Physical Therapy in Conroe
If your back pain didn't get better with physical therapy, chiropractic, or massage, PhysioVictory is a one-on-one physical therapy clinic in Conroe, Texas, built for exactly that situation. We start by checking whether the pain is actually coming from your back, which is often not the case, and most patients leave the first visit with a plan to do much less than they have been doing. Care is designed by Dr. Lindsay Kennedy, PT, DPT, COMT.
Who we see
Most of the people who come to us for back pain have already tried a lot:
- a course of physical therapy, often more than one
- chiropractic adjustments, massage, or both
- an MRI, injections, or a diagnosis of a bulging or herniated disc
- a thick folder of exercises, a stretching routine from social media, or an online program
They are not lazy and they are not doing nothing. Usually they are doing the most!
What the last round of care usually missed
Two things come up again and again.
1. Deep and frequent stretching. Many people with stubborn back pain have been told to stretch their hips and hamstrings, and they do it faithfully. But a lot of them also have a component of nerve tension. In those deep stretch positions the sciatic nerve gets pulled where it enters the spine, and the stretching that is supposed to help keeps the nerve sensitized instead.
2. Deep pressure work. Foam rolling, massage guns, sitting on a lacrosse ball, pressing into sore spots. A good deep massage once or twice a month is one thing. Doing it daily or several times a week doesn't injure anything, but it keeps the inflammation cycle active, so the pain never gets a chance to settle.
What we check first
Before anything else, we test whether your pain is actually coming from your back. We gently assess each level of the spine to see if that reproduces the pain you came in with. If you've been told you have a herniated disc at L5 and gently pressing on L5 doesn't reproduce your pain, that disc is most likely not what's causing your pain today.
Often the source turns out to be a hip muscle referring pain into the back, an inflamed SI joint from frequent adjustments, or psoas muscle guarding. Everyone learns that the heart refers pain to the left arm; fewer people learn that every muscle has a referral pattern of its own. The other common finding is nerve roots in the low back that are simply irritated by the very stretching routine meant to help them.
What your first visit looks like
Every new patient starts with a 60-minute, one-on-one evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We will:
- review your full history, including imaging, prior treatment, and what you're currently doing at home
- test the spine, hips, and nerves to find where the pain is actually coming from
- look at your daily routine for the inputs that may be keeping you in pain
- explain what we find and why it matters in your day-to-day life
You leave with a short, specific strategy you can start that day. Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in.
What changes by the third visit
Most patients tell us they are doing less, but better. Instead of a long routine they can't keep up with, they have a few things that take about five minutes a day, and they are more consistent than they've ever been. With fewer inputs, the nervous system calms down, and people usually describe feeling lighter and hopeful.
How many visits
Chronic low back pain usually takes 6 to 10 sessions, depending on your goals and how long it's been going on. True disc-related pain generally needs two sessions a week for at least the first few weeks. After your evaluation, we'll recommend a plan and help you find the appointment time that fits your life.
Cost and payment
PhysioVictory is a cash-pay, out-of-network practice.
- Initial evaluation (60 minutes): $225
- Follow-up visit (45 minutes): $199
Your first visit is paid when you book, to hold the full hour for you. After that, the card on file is charged on the day of each visit. Your appointment time becomes a standing reservation, and most patients schedule 4 to 6 weeks ahead. There are no packages, discounts, or contracts.
We provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement, and we accept HSA and FSA cards. You don't need a doctor's referral to start. If you want a superbill, Texas law requires a referral on file within your first 30 days of care.
When back pain is not a PT problem
We screen every back pain patient for red flags. Weakness that is getting worse, foot drop, loss of control on one side of the body, or numbness that doesn't go away all point to a physician or neurosurgeon first, and we'll tell you plainly and help you get there. Tingling in your feet for fifteen minutes in the morning that resolves and stays stable is a different story; that is appropriate for physical therapy, as long as it doesn't progress.
If you're afraid to hope again
You have nothing to lose from one visit. We are honest with people about whether their case fits what we do, because our reputation in Conroe depends on it. Think of the evaluation as a second opinion: you find out what the Victory Method approach would look like for your case, and whether your case is even a fit for it. Either way, you leave with strategy adjustments you can use, whether or not you ever come back for follow-up treatment.
Most of our back pain patients have had the MRIs, the aggressive programs, and the expensive interventions. What surprises them is how much simpler the answer usually is.
Common questions
I've already done PT. How is this different? We spend the first visit finding out where the pain is actually coming from before treating anything, and we usually take things out of your routine rather than adding more.
Should I keep stretching? Not until we've checked for nerve tension. For a lot of people, deep hip and hamstring stretching is what's irritating the disc or the nerve.
What about foam rolling and massage? Occasional deep tissue work is fine. Daily pressing on sore spots keeps inflammation active. We'll tell you what to keep and what to drop.
I have a herniated disc on my MRI. Can you still help? Often, yes. A disc on an image is not always the thing causing today's pain, and we test that directly at your first visit. Disc-related pain can also respond well to physical therapy, but true discogenic dysfunction generally needs sessions twice a week for at least the first few weeks.
Do I need a referral? No. You can book directly. A referral is required by our office before we can provide superbill documentation for your insurance.
