What does your hypermobility look like?
If you’ve ever been told you’re “really flexible” but still deal with constant muscle tension, tightness, or joint pain, this might be relevant for you.
How do you sit when working?
Most of our hypermobile clients love sitting criss cross.
We work with a lot of hypermobile clients, and one of the biggest patterns we see is that the things people are doing to try to feel better are often the very things keeping them stuck. More stretching, more rest, more foam rolling. It makes sense why you’d try those, but when your nervous system is already working overtime to create stability, more input can actually increase irritation instead of relieving it.
In those cases, we usually start by simplifying things.
1. Stop stretching so much. Most hypermobile bodies don’t need more range, they need more control. We usually recommend earning your stretch and saving it for after strength-based work instead of using it as a default.
2. Stop resting so much. This doesn’t mean jumping into intense workouts, but it does usually mean moving more consistently. Even something as simple as a 20-minute walk each day can help regulate the system and reduce that constant feeling of tightness.
3. Take a full break from massage guns and foam rolling until the pain cycle subsides. These can feel helpful in the moment, but for hypermobile clients they often irritate already sensitive joints and tissues. Giving your body a break from that input can calm things down faster than most people expect.
When the body has been dealing with years of tension and discomfort, sometimes the shift isn’t doing more, it’s doing less of the things that are overstimulating it. These small changes can go a long way in helping an overtaxed system settle.
If you or a friend is hypermobile, we would love it if you would share the name of a massage therapist, fitness instructor, or medical provider who has been really helpful to you. We’re always looking to connect our clients with great people. E-mail us at contact@physiovictory.com with your favorite provider in the Conroe, Woodlands, Montgomery, Willis, Huntsville & North Houston Area.
We’re always looking for great massage therapists, trainers, or providers for hypermobility.
How do you prefer to stand?
Often hypermobile clients are frequently leaning or jutting a hip out.
