If you’re like many of our clients, your hip muscles are probably not tolerating the load of returning to workouts after resting. This is often because they have been offloaded and aching for so long without predictable relief. This creates a cycle of protective guarding that often leaves you feeling like you’re “too old” to workout. But that is honestly never true.
It’s not as likely that you’ve injured yourself. It’s actualy more likely that your nerves and possibly your muscles in your glute and hip region are in a “guarded mode.”
If you’re wanting to start to feel better and see if conservative options will work for you:
Start with a 10 minute daily walk with no weight vest, no speed goals, just 10 minutes but don’t skip days.
Find your old heating pad and apply heat 20 minutes daily to your hip even when it is not aching.
Make sure you aren’t skipping your magnesium glycinate or Epsom Salt bath soaks. Magnesium is an unsung hero for aches and pains.
You may not have an injury at all. It’s very likely your nervous system may be asking you for simple predictability. And its primary language to communicate with you is muscle tension, nerve tension and sometimes it escalates to pain. These signals do not always point to injury.
